A tool is only as effective as the craftsperson who wields it. That said, the right tool can help you get the job done twice as good in half the time.
But here’s the problem with tools today…
There’s a million of ’em
Most of them cost money
Most of them cost money every single month
Most of them have a steep learning curve
In short, the problem with tools is this…
It’s hard to know which tools will give you the most bang for your buck/time.
This short list should help you overcome that problem.
After all… Digital Marketing is not easy. But it certainly is a skill that can be learned (and is well worth learning).
#1 – You Need A Funnel
If you’ve read my Start Here article, you know the foundation for any good marketing strategy is a System, and that System is made up of 4 parts: Your Market, Message, Media, and Brand.
A funnel packages up your Brand and delivers your Message thru various Media types to your ideal Market. In other words, a funnel is the actual machine that puts your Marketing Strategy into action.
Your funnel is the thing that gets you more leads & clients.
When it comes to choosing the right tools for your funnel, you’ve got to answer two questions:
- What does the blueprint for my funnel need to look like?
- How do I build my funnel once I’ve got my blueprint?
My first recommendation for most business owners is almost always ClickFunnels.

Your Market is a key piece of your Marketing System. And while paid traffic & online advertising has leveled the playing field, the same principles of attracting an audience are in play regardless of whether you are paying to spread your message or building your following organically.
The recent release of Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson (same author as DotCom Secrets) is one of the best books on the subject (and he’s currently giving away a bunch of free copies of the book if you pay S&H).
Other great reads on this subject are “Tribes” by Seth Godin and “Getting Noticed” by Lindsay Teague Moreno.
I think books are one of my favorite types of tools because they are cheap, they give you access to some of the brightest minds in business, and if I get even one good idea from a book, I consider it worth the minimal investment of time & money.
#3 – You Need Quick & Beautiful Graphics
Other than copy… the words on the page… you’ll quickly find that your Marketing System has a hungry appetite for visual content. Hence, your ability to quickly create beautiful graphics is crucial.
The good news is… you don’t need to be a professional designer to make this work.
Even though I was a professional photographer for over 10 years, its much easier these days to find free stock imagery online AND use simple software to design beautiful graphics.
My top 2 go-to sites are:
Canva.com: for creating quick graphics for my blog & social media
Unsplash.com: for amazing quality royalty-free stock photos
And much like with your funnels… not only do you need the tools for creating quick & beautiful graphics… you also need to know what type of graphics to create.
